Grandma's Jewelry Box - See Any Treasure Here?

Do you have Grandma's jewelry box in your attic collecting dust? Or are you at a garage sale and see a bag of 'old broken jewelry,' but just aren't sure if it's worth anything? A friend brought this box in from her attic for me to take a peek. Read on to see what I found.

It can be overwhelming to sift through a box of vintage jewelry and understand if there is anything of value hidden in there. I personally love a treasure hunt and this box did not disappoint. Almost everything in the box would have been purchased at discount department stores, but there was one piece in this box that was a true find for my friend.

Grandpa's Art Deco era ring (ca. early 1940s) might be a little worn, but it is 10K gold with a large lab created ruby! This is definitely the winner in this box. If you happen upon a stash with rings, check inside the band for markings. Gold and silver rings are typically marked with content and makers stamps like the one above designating 10K, or ten karat, gold.

All that was left to do was a good cleaning and Grandpa's Art Deco ring looks amazing! My friend is very happy and will be displaying this beauty with her Father's ring.

Happy Friday!
Chris

P.S. This little treasure hunt has inspired me to do a series of blog posts on sifting through jewelry in Grandma's jewelry box. Stay tuned for more Grandma's Jewelry Box posts.
